About the author

“Despite its small size, Statia boasts a wealth of biodiversity to appeal to most tastes. I have done my best to document everything I have found, but this website is by no means an exhaustive list of every species. Within the pages of this site you will find some information about the various taxa documented on the island.”

Hannah is a terrestrial ecologist who has lived and worked on Statia since 2006. She is responsible for a variety of terrestrial research and monitoring, including bird, butterfly and orchid surveys. She has been monitoring red-billed tropicbird reproductive success since 2012. Hannah has a vast network of contacts across the Caribbean and has worked with scientists, researchers and experts from a variety of institutions. Many of these collaborations have been so successful that they still continue today. She is the co-author of a number of publications relating to Statia’s flora and fauna, and even has a species of tarantula named after her. Hannah holds a BSc in Environmental Studies and has almost completed her MSc in Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development in the Caribbean with the University of the West Indies.

In the following pages you will find an incomplete documentation of many of the species found on Statia. Check back for updates, or contact me with specific questions.
